PTI declares Ayub Khan's grandson as PM candidate

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's party PTI on Thursday declared Omar Ayub Khan as its prime ministerial candidate. PTI Chairman Barrister Gauhar Khan said on Thursday that Imran Khan has made Omar Ayub Khan the candidate for the post of Prime Minister, while Mian Aslam Iqbal has been selected for the post of Chief Minister of Punjab.

Omar Ayub, 54, is PTI general secretary and grandson of former dictator Ayub Khan. In 2013, he contested as a PML-N candidate from Haripura in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but lost. He joined Tehreek-e-Insaf party before the 2018 general elections.

Earlier, Gauhar Khan and PTI leaders met Imran Khan in Adiala jail. He discussed the current political situation of the country. Speaking to the media outside Adiala jail after the deliberations, Barrister Gauhar Khan said that PTI has chosen the party's national general secretary Omar Ayub Khan as its prime ministerial candidate. Omar Khan also faces more than 20 charges in the violent incidents that took place in May.

Gauhar Khan said that Mian Aslam Iqbal has been named as the candidate for the post of Chief Minister of Punjab. The name of Salar Khan Kakkar is being discussed as the Chief Minister of Balochistan.

Top army officers toppled Imran government: JUI-F

The leader of a right-wing political party in Pakistan has claimed that top military officers will topple Imran Khan's government in 2022. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal leader Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman claimed in a TV show that former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had toppled the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government. When PPP brought no-confidence motion against Imran's party government, General Bajwa and Faiz Hameed were in touch with us. He asked all the parties to bring a no-confidence motion.
