Samajwadi Party (SP) has taken a tough stand against Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. On Thursday, SP protested from Parliament to the streets. The party demanded a public apology from Amit Shah for his remarks. SP MP Dimple Yadav led the protest in Delhi’s Parliament House complex, while in Lucknow the party held strong demonstrations inside and outside the Assembly. Along with this, SP called a meeting in Lucknow and strongly condemned Shah’s statement.

Dimple Yadav’s statement: Insult to the Constitution and democracy

Leading the protest in the Parliament House complex, Dimple Yadav said,
“BJP and Amit Shah should apologize for the remarks made against Baba Saheb. The kind of discussion that took place in Parliament on Constitution Day and then the talks on Ambedkar, is against the Constitution and democracy.”

Akhilesh Yadav’s attack on BJP

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on BJP regarding Baba Saheb. He said,
“Baba Saheb is like God for the backward, the Dalits, the poor and the deprived. There is his picture in every village and every house. People of BJP hate PDA (backward, dalit, tribal) class and work to snatch their rights. This government does not recognize Baba Saheb and avoids paying respect to him. Shah’s comments symbolize the internal views of the BJP.”

Uproar and walkout in the assembly

Even during the assembly session in Lucknow, SP MLAs created a ruckus and staged a walkout. On this Akhilesh said,
“Our MLAs wanted the government to give clear answers to every question, but the government was avoiding giving answers. We will continue this fight for the honor of Baba Saheb. BJP has behaved disrespectfully towards him and for this he should apologize.”

“Bitterness for Baba Saheb in the heart of BJP”

Akhilesh termed Shah’s remarks as the result of BJP’s mentality. He said,
“The people of BJP consider the Constitution as their adversary because it stands as a shield for the poor and the deprived. How will those whose hearts are filled with hatred run the country?”

He also said that BJP does not respect the Constitution and Shah’s comments reflect the negative thinking of his party.

SP’s anger: Plan to protest across the country

SP leaders have warned that if BJP does not apologise, there will be massive protests across the country. The party has appealed to its workers and supporters to take Ambedkar’s ideas to every home.
