Zakir Naik News: Christian leaders of Pakistan have demanded President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take action against Muslim fundamentalist Zakir Naik for making inappropriate remarks against Christianity. Zakir Naik, who is on a month-long visit to Pakistan, has been criticized for giving 'controversial' speeches in Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore.
Muslim fundamentalist Zakir Naik has reached Pakistan for the first time in three decades. Before this, Naik had come to Pakistan in 1992. Zakir Naik had to flee India in 2016 after being accused of money laundering and spreading fundamentalism through hate speech. The Government of India has declared Naik a fugitive. He was not given asylum by any country.
Ultimately, the previous government led by Mahathir Mohamad granted him permanent residence permit in Malaysia. Archbishop Dr. Azad Marshall of the Synod Church of Pakistan and other Christian leaders wrote letters to Shahbaz Sharif and Zardari saying that Naik, who was a political guest, had made adverse remarks about Christians and their religion.
Christian leaders also requested him to take action against Naik and take effective steps to prevent such incidents in future.
