Raigarh, 29 August (HS). The Jute Mill Police of Raigarh district took a major action against ganja smuggling and seized 175 kg ganja and property worth Rs 43 lakh and arrested five accused including a woman on Thursday. The accused had planned to bring ganja from Odisha and sell it in Sakti, Korba and other nearby areas.

According to the information received, Jute Mill Police has busted a big network of ganja smuggling and arrested five accused including a woman. Based on the information received from an informer, Jute Mill Police has seized property worth Rs 43 lakh including 175 kg of ganja from the accused. A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act, the police is now searching for other members of this racket.

The police received information that some people from Sakti, Janjgir-Champa, under the guise of buying and selling vegetables, bring ganja illegally from Odisha and sell it in Sakti, Korba. For confirmation and action on this, the Superintendent of Police directed the station in-charges of the route to take action by deploying informers. Jute Mill station in-charge inspector Mohan Bhardwaj, along with his team, cordoned off the area near Kodatarai airstrip. A white colour Alto car (number CG 13 AS 6967) and a small Haathi Tata S Gold (number CG 13 AM 2987) were found parked here. A total of five people, including a woman, were present in both the vehicles.

During the search conducted by the police, a total of 175 kg of ganja was recovered from both the vehicles, whose market value is estimated to be around Rs 35 lakh. Along with this, Alto car and Chota Hathi vehicle used in smuggling ganja have also been seized, whose total value is around Rs 8 lakh. During interrogation, the accused admitted that they used to bring ganja from Odisha and sell it in the areas around Sakti and Korba.

As part of this action, a case has been registered against the accused in Jute Mill police station under section 20 (B) NDPS Act. Superintendent of Police Divyang Kumar Patel has given instructions for end-to-end action to uproot the drug smuggling network, and under this, police teams are engaged in investigating the source of illegal ganja, supply chain and financial transactions.

The arrested accused are Santram Khunte (36 years), resident of Sothi, Sakti police station, Sakti district, Sumitra Khunte (28 years), resident of Godbordi, Kharsia police station, Raigarh district, currently residing in Sothi, Sakti police station, Sakti district, Rajaram Satnami (35 years), resident of Sothi, Sakti police station, Sakti district, Ankit Singh (35 years), resident of Pamgarh Ambetkar Chowk, Ward No. 06, Pamgarh police station, Janjgir Champa district, Mahendra Tandon (40 years), resident of Lalkhadan, Darrighat Chowk, near College, Torwa police station, Bilaspur district.
