MLA Ilaiyaraaja had alleged that he was approached by the main accused Thirunavukkarasu and his associates. He had offered a huge bribe of Rs 35 crore to vote against the stand of the party whip and Chief Minister Vijay during important proceedings of the Assembly. The MLA told the police that when he rejected the immoral offer, he and his entire family were threatened with dire consequences. According to the recent investigation of the police, under this conspiracy, there was a complete plan to topple the government by luring about 15 TVK MLAs with huge sums of money, which the syndicate named ‘Project Meghalaya’.

According to an investigative report by NDTV, Chennai Police took a very shocking action in this case and took into custody Vijayan, a senior television journalist of the state’s famous regional news channel ‘Puthiya Thalaimurai’. The police interrogated him marathonly at the police station on 15 and 16 July 2026. Not only this, the police has also officially seized the journalist’s mobile phone and sent it to the lab for forensic examination so that his digital footprints can be scrutinized. According to top Chennai Police officials, the mastermind and accused of this entire horse-trading network is a YouTuber named Thirunavukkarasu. Thirunavukkarasu runs a very popular opinion polling group on YouTube by the name of ‘IPDS’, under the guise of which he used to make inroads within political parties. The technical and cyber cell investigation has found strong digital evidence of several suspicious and direct conversations between Thirunavukkarasu and journalist Vijayan. Now the police are trying to find out whether this opinion polling group and the media were being used as part of a larger conspiracy to mentally influence the MLAs and create an atmosphere against the government to stage a coup.
Kanimozhi’s counterattack: An attack on press freedom or a fabricated story for political gain?
Meanwhile, DMK has opened a front against the Vijay government after the police interrogated senior journalist Vijayan till late night and his mobile phone was confiscated. DMK’s firebrand MP Kanimozhi launched a scathing attack on social media platform X, accusing the TVK government of misuse of power. He wrote, “Arbitrarily confiscating the mobile phone of an independent journalist under the pretext of investigation and keeping him in illegal custody for hours in the police station is a highly condemnable and undemocratic act of the TVK government’s police force.” Kanimozhi termed it a direct attack on the freedom of the press and demanded the immediate release of the journalist. On the other hand, Chennai Press Club also alleged that the journalist was harassed without following any legal procedure late on the night of July 15. At the same time, the DMK leadership has completely rejected all these allegations and said that Thalapathy Vijay’s government is creating false and fabricated stories against the opposition to hide its failures and take political advantage.
