Prayagraj, 02 August (HS). Prof. SN Chaturvedi Memorial Lecture was held in the Botany Department of Allahabad University on Friday in collaboration with the Indian Botanical Society. Chief speaker Prof. Arun Kumar Pandey said that while doing new research, the researcher should keep in mind that the research products should be excellent so that the society can get more benefit. Research work should not be limited to only publishing research papers.

The topic of the commemorative lecture was 'Diversity, Phylogeny and Domestication of Cucurbitaceae'. Chancellor of Mansarovar Global University Bhopal and former professor of Delhi University Dr. Arun Kumar Pandey gave information about the diversity and family tree of Cucurbitaceae.

Prof. Arun Kumar Pandey explained in detail about the various species of Cucurbitaceae spread across the world. He said that the plants of the Cucurbitaceae family are about 11000 years old. In India, 94 species of the Cucurbitaceae family such as cucumber, pumpkin, watermelon, pointed gourd, melon etc. are found. He told that some wild species flourish more in their natural environment. If they are grown somewhere else, their productivity is negatively affected. At present, a lot of research work is being done in this direction so that plants can be grown in other environmental conditions as well.

The stage was conducted by Dr. Harmanjit Kaur. In the end, the program coordinator Dr. Shweta Shekhar expressed her gratitude. During the program, researchers and students of the university were present along with scientists of the Indian Botanical Society, including Prof. Sanjay Mishra, Prof. Sonali, Dr. Pratik Srivastava, Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Dr. Vaibhav Srivastava and Prof. Manoj Kumar Singh.
