Wayanad by-election: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday (October 23) filed her nomination for the by-election from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. Before filing candidature, Priyanka Gandhi did a mega road show in Wayanad. During the nomination, Priyanka was accompanied by her brother and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, her mother Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and her husband Robert Vadra and several other senior leaders. Earlier, during the road show, thousands of people including UDF leaders and workers gave a warm welcome to Priyanka Gandhi in Kalpetta, Wayanad.
He has officially started his electoral innings by filing nomination papers for the by-election to be held on Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. Priyanka, who reached Wayanad with mother and Congress parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday (October 22) night, led a road show from the new bus stand in Kalpetta along with her brother and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi. Priyanka's husband Robert Vadra, along with senior Congress and IUML leaders, accompanied her in an open vehicle during the road show. Party MP Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi seat of Uttar Pradesh was also present.
Priyanka is contesting against Left Democratic Front's (LDF) Satyan Mokeri and BJP's Navya Haridas. Mokeri, a former MLA from Nadapuram constituency in Kozhikode district, is known for addressing issues of the agriculture sector. So, Haridas has been a councilor in Kozhikode Corporation twice. She is also the state general secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha. In the Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi won from Wayanad and Rae Bareli seats, after which Rahul left the Wayanad seat. By-election is being held here due to Rahul vacating the Wayanad seat.
