New Delhi, August 07 (HS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha on Wednesday regarding the exclusion of Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat from the Paris Olympics 2024.
According to sources, the Prime Minister spoke to IOA President PT Usha and sought direct information from her on the issue and also inquired about the options India has after Vinesh's defeat. He has asked the IOA chief to consider all options to help Vinesh in her case. The Prime Minister has also urged PT Usha to register India's strong protest about her inability to help Vinesh.
It is noteworthy that Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the final match of the 50kg weight category event of women's wrestling at the Paris Olympics 2024 today due to excess weight.
Phogat defeated Cuba's Yusnelis Guzman Lopez 5-0 in the semi-finals on Tuesday. With this, she became the first Indian female wrestler to reach the Olympic final.
