Prime Minister said in the program organized in the Supreme Court on Constitution Day, I have always remained within the ambit of the Constitution.

New Delhi, 26 November (HS). At a function organized in the Supreme Court today on the occasion of the 75th year of the Indian Constitution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that today is the 75th year of the Indian Constitution and it is a matter of pride for the country. The Prime Minister said that we cannot forget that today is the anniversary of the terrorist attack in Mumbai and I also want to reiterate the country’s resolve that all terrorist organizations challenging India’s security will be given a befitting reply.

During the ceremony, CJI Sanjiv Khanna presented a painting made by a Tihar Jail inmate to the Prime Minister. On this occasion, the Prime Minister said that we have recognized the third gender. The supply of gas to the poor has been ensured. The Prime Minister said that Digital Life Certificate has been made a reality for the senior citizens of the country. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that I have always remained within the ambit of the Constitution and never encroached on it. He said that this gesture is enough and there is no need to say anything more about it.

On this occasion, CJI Sanjeev Khanna expressed concern over the pendency of cases in courts and the number of undertrial prisoners in jails. He said that the Constitution has given the responsibility to the courts to conduct judicial review. We hear PILs, take suo motu cognizance, appoint amicus curiae to settle suits. The Chief Justice said that the biggest strength of the judiciary is its transparency. Expressing concern over the pendency of cases, the Chief Justice said that this year 02 crore 80 lakh cases were filed in the district courts across the country, while 16 lakh 60 thousand cases were filed in the High Court and 54 thousand cases were filed in the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice said that the cases of 5 lakh 23 thousand prisoners are handled by about 20 thousand judges in the lower courts and 750 judges in the High Court. The Chief Justice said that despite such huge disparity, the judiciary disposes of cases competently.

On this occasion, Justice BR Gavai said that the Constitution is a document which gave birth to a new social system. Despite the difference of opinion among the members of the Constituent Assembly, they were united in the opinion of giving a constitution in which freedom and rights are protected. On this occasion Attorney General R. Venkataramani, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Supreme Court Bar Association President and senior lawyer Kapil Sibal, Bar Council of India Chairman and Rajya Sabha member Manan Mishra also expressed their views.
