Varanasi, March 02 (HS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi for the third consecutive time. BJP has released its first list for the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday evening. As soon as the name of Narendra Modi was announced as the candidate from Varanasi, there was tremendous enthusiasm among the local BJP leaders as well as the officials of Kashi region. The workers gathered outside the party office in Neechibaug celebrated by dancing to the beats of drums and bursting fireworks.
Narendra Modi contested the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi for the first time in 2014 on a BJP ticket. Then Aam Aadmi Party's Arvind Kejriwal (now the Chief Minister of Delhi) had started the electoral battle against Modi ji. Arvind Kejriwal had somehow saved his deposit in the elections. In the year 2019, PM Modi again entered the election campaign. Then SP alliance candidate Shalini Yadav had contested the elections against the Prime Minister. Shalini Yadav, daughter-in-law of former Congress MP and former Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, late Shyamlal Yadav, has now joined BJP. In the year 2019 elections, Prime Minister Modi got 63.6 percent of the total votes and in the year 2014, 54.6 percent votes.
