Prime Minister Modi said, India will set up ‘Jan Aushadhi Kendra’ in Guyana

New Delhi, 20 November (HS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that India wants to increase its pharma exports to the Caribbean country. In this direction, India is also planning to establish ‘Jan Aushadhi Kendra’ there. He also said that both India and Guyana are committed to further their efforts for the reform of global institutions. Prime Minister Modi said these things while addressing a press conference in the Caribbean Garden City Georgetown along with Guyana President Irfan Ali.

In the joint press conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted cooperation between the two countries in the fields of defence, food security and energy security. He said that both India and Guyana agree on the need for reform of global institutions. He further said that “We have identified several new initiatives to strengthen our relations. India has made significant contributions to skills development and capacity building in Guyana. We have contributed to food security by providing millet last year. India will continue to assist in the cultivation of other crops. The MoU signed today regarding agriculture will further strengthen our efforts. Also, PM Modi said that India will increase its pharma exports to the Caribbean country. In this direction, we are planning to establish ‘Jan Aushadhi Kendra’ here.

Highlighting India’s vision for a green and sustainable future, PM Modi said that considering the new possibilities in the energy sector, we will move forward as a natural partner. We hope that Guyana will play an important role in India’s energy security. In this context, a blueprint will be prepared for long term partnership. Modi also said that India has been contributing as a reliable partner in the infrastructure development of Guyana. He is happy that with our efforts the first phase of the East Bank East Coast Road Project is about to be completed. The passenger and cargo ferries supplied by India last year have increased connectivity to various areas of Guyana. By increasing cooperation in technology, we are giving a future direction to our relations. India’s digital public infrastructure i.e. India Stack is going to revolutionize public service delivery. Besides, it is also an effective medium to increase good governance and transparency. We will share with Guyana our experience in ensuring public welfare through technology.

During this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Irfan Ali for his grand welcome. He said that the visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana after 56 years is an important milestone in our relations. Modi said that I personally have a deep connection with Guyana. About 24 years ago, he got the opportunity to come here as an ordinary citizen. At that time, he had seen a glimpse of how historic and deep the relations between India and Guyana are. It is a privilege for him to come here once again as Prime Minister today. He said that President Irfan Ali has a special and unbreakable bond with India. Last year he graced the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas as the chief guest. His visit inspired us to take our cooperation to new heights in every field. Moving forward with this positive spirit, we are building our mutually beneficial partnership.
