Inflation is taking its toll day by day, due to which the budget of the housewife is getting disturbed. In the last one year, the prices of petrol, diesel, grains, groceries and vegetables have increased at rocket speed. Last year in December 2023, the price of vegetables was Rs 20 per kg, in December 2024 its price has reached Rs 50 per kg. Due to which poor and middle class families are asking what to eat and what not to eat.
Huge increase in the prices of vegetables
The price of vegetables has halved in Ahmedabad. Although vegetables should be available at Rs 30 to 40 per kg in winter, currently they are available at Rs 60 to 70 per kg. Among the vegetables, the price of the vegetables most used in the kitchen is reaching beyond Rs 100. At present, the prices of vegetables like potato, tomato, brinjal, peas, tuvar, guar, choli, carrot, fancy, flowers, cabbage, coriander, lemon, chilli, ginger and okra are skyrocketing.
The price of garlic ghee is right
In December 2024, the price of potato will reach Rs 50/55 per kg, while the price of onion will reach Rs 80 per kg. When the price of garlic has reached Rs 400 per kg i.e. equal to the price of ghee, the price of green vegetables is also seen doubling. In which the price of fenugreek, spinach, coriander, radish is also around Rs 50 per kg, usually winter vegetables are available around Rs 20 per kg. Even in the harsh winter, vegetables are disappearing from the kitchens of middle class families.
What is the main reason behind the price increase?
According to traders, change in weather is responsible for the increase in prices of vegetables. Due to continuous unseasonal rains, farmers’ income from crops is decreasing, due to which prices are increasing. At present, housewives are in trouble due to rising prices one after the other and they are demanding that these rising prices should be controlled.
