President Draupadi Murmu was conferred the country's highest civilian award, the Grand Collar of the Order of Timor Leste, by Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos Horta for her achievement in public service, education and social dedication.

President Draupadi Murmu said that this honor is a reflection of the friendly relations between India and Timor-Leste. It is worth noting that President Draupadi is on a six-day visit to Fiji, New Zealand and Timor Leste. Timor Leste is the last leg of this six-day tour. The purpose of the President's six-day three-nation visit is to promote India's East-East policy.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Draupadi Murmu was honoured with Fiji's highest civilian award, the Companion of the Order of Fiji. During this, the President praised the relations between the two countries and said that India is ready to partner with Fiji to become a stronger, more stable and more prosperous nation. This was the first visit of an Indian President to Fiji.

An Indian Embassy to be established in Timor Leste

Before the visit of Indian President Draupadi Murmu to Timor Leste, the Secretary of the Indian Foreign Ministry informed that the Indian Embassy will be opened soon. Apart from this, she was also told that the consulate of Timor Leste will also be opened in Delhi.
