Preparations for march to Rashtrapati Bhavan today under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, political turmoil intensifies in Delhi

The political temperature has suddenly reached its peak in the country’s capital New Delhi, where the opposition alliance ‘India’ has opened a direct front against the Central Government and the Election Commission, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The entire opposition under the leadership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made full preparations to take to the streets once again today. According to the decided strategic plan, all the MPs of the opposition parties will first unite in the Parliament House complex and from there they will take out a foot march towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan, raising their demands. This fierce demonstration by the opposition parties is being organized over the fairness of the electoral system, alleged serious irregularities in the process of Special Summary Revision (SIR) and serious allegations of vote theft in the electoral process.

In view of the situation of not getting time for a formal meeting at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has decided to bring opposition unity to the ground with full force. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi on Thursday made a personal call to top alliance leaders like West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and made a special request to reach New Delhi with immediate effect. Confirming this political stir, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, just before taking off from Kolkata for the national capital, clearly said that she has been called to Delhi at the top level for emergency discussion and action on the extremely sensitive issue of vote theft and violation of democratic rights.

The main and primary objective of the opposition parties is to personally meet the constitutional head of the country, President Draupadi Murmu, and hand over concrete evidence of the functioning of the Election Commission and the alleged irregularities. The opposition leaders also want to place a formal demand before the President to remove Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from the post with immediate effect. Giving information about the entire incident, Congress Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal said that the first formal request letter for the meeting was sent to Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 2, after which the President’s Secretariat had asked for a list of specific leaders attending the meeting. After this, a formal letter was again sent on 5th October with the names of the leaders and a request was made to give time on 7th, 8th or 9th October, but till now no official time has been fixed. The opposition has bluntly warned that if they do not get time then it is certain that they will take out a foot march till Rashtrapati Bhavan.

All the MPs of the opposition alliance are going to hold a high-level emergency meeting on Friday at 3 pm in the historic central hall of the old Parliament House i.e. Constitution House. In this general meeting, the detailed outline of the upcoming movements and demonstrations against alleged vote theft will be decided. Opposition strategists say that to save the credibility of democratic institutions, all options for protest are open to them. If the security agencies stop them from going towards Rashtrapati Bhavan, then the opposition parties have prepared a solid strategy to hold massive protests in a peaceful manner outside Seva Teerth, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Vice President’s residence, the official residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Tight security arrangements have been made in Delhi and police forces are deployed at every nook and corner.
