Uttarkashi, 30 November (Hindustan Reporter). The mosque dispute that has been going on in Uttarkashi for the last three months is not showing any signs of stopping. Hundreds of people, including Hindu leader T Raja, are expected to attend the Mahapanchayat proposed at Ramlila Maidan on December 1 under the banner of Dev Bhoomi Vichar Manch. The major issues in the Mahapanchayat include love jihad, land jihad, illegal encroachment and demand for investigation of suspicious persons from outside states.

Conditional permission to Mahapanchayat

Subdistrict Magistrate Bhatwadi Mukesh Chand Ramola has given permission for the Mahapanchayat with about two dozen conditions. These include conditions like not giving inflammatory speeches, not taking out rallies, not disrupting traffic and maintaining peace and order.

Police force deployment and flag march

District Superintendent of Police Sarita Doval said that in view of the Mahapanchayat, additional police forces have been called from other districts. Under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Surendra Singh Bhandari, the police took out a flag march on Saturday and appealed to the citizens to maintain peace. For security, the entire city has been divided into three zones and sector magistrates have been appointed.

Section 163 applied

Before the Mahapanchayat, Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code has been implemented in the district. Under this, any kind of rally, meeting and demonstration within 50 meters of the disputed structure has been banned. There will also be a ban on gathering of five or more people.

Background of the dispute

This Mahapanchayat is being organized under the leadership of Dev Bhoomi Vichar Manch. The forum has recently appointed Vishwa Hindu Parishad district co-minister Kirti Singh Mehar as district convenor. After the uproar on October 24, the administration and police are taking extra vigilance.
