Mumbai, 03 May (HS). Preparations have been completed at 23 thousand 36 polling stations for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. Voting for eleven seats in the state is to be held at these polling centers on May 7 and instructions have been given to prepare the system in view of the heat. Adequate drinking water, ORS packets, adequate pavilion arrangements and waiting room facilities have been provided at all polling stations as per the number of voters.
Chief Electoral Officer and Principal Secretary S. Chokkalingam told a press conference held at the ministry on Friday that in the third phase on May 7, voting will be held on a total of 11 Lok Sabha constituencies – 02 in Konkan Division, 07 in Pune Division and 02 in Aurangabad Division. A total of 23 thousand 36 polling stations have been provided for this and 2 crore 09 lakh 92 thousand 616 voters will exercise their franchise in this election. He said that 46,491 Ballot Units (BUs) and 23,036 Control Units (CUs) and 23,036 VVPATs are available for these eleven constituencies and a total of 258 candidates are in the fray in the third phase.
S. Chokkalingam said that the normal polling timings for all constituencies in the third phase are from 7 am to 6 pm. However, the polling station will remain open till 6 pm till the voting process of all the voters present at the polling station is completed. Necessary materials and equipment for this election have been made available at the polling station. Adequately trained election staff and officers are available for smooth conduct of elections. Police personnel have also been deployed.
