According to a study published in the peer-reviewed journal Nutrients, women who consume large amounts of sugary drinks during pregnancy may be at higher risk for heart disease.

Diabetes that occurs during pregnancy is called gestational diabetes. In case of gestational diabetes, the baby's weight may be more than normal, due to which the baby may face many problems during delivery. Apart from this, premature birth and jaundice of the child can also occur due to gestational diabetes.

During the survey, women who consumed one sugary drink per week were found to have a 38 percent higher risk of gestational diabetes. Apart from this, the risk of gestational hypertension was also found to be 64 percent higher in these women.

The survey also found that excessive consumption of sugary foods during pregnancy does not provide adequate blood supply to the fetus, which adversely affects its development. It also increases the risk of premature delivery.

Consuming these sugary drinks four times a week also significantly increases the risk of macrosomia, a condition in which the newborn is much larger than average. At the end of this survey, the researchers said that consuming large amounts of sugary drinks during pregnancy significantly increases the risk of gestational diabetes and gestational hypertension. Apart from this, one also has to face the problem of macrosomia.
