Ranchi, July 13 (HS). BJP's state spokesperson Pratul Shah Dev on Saturday countered the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's (JMM) press conference and said that the Congress had attempted to murder the Constitution on June 25, 1975. The constitutional rights of all the citizens of the country were snatched away. Today, JMM is so angry at celebrating the date of Emergency as Constitution Murder Day that it has become furious.

Pratul said that it is actually the greed to remain in power that is forcing JMM to forget its past history. Pratul expressed surprise that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has forgotten that Shibu Soren used to hide in the forests and protest against the repressive policies of the government during this emergency period.

Pratul said that the JMM, which is making false claims of freedom of press, has forgotten the dark period of emergency when the front page of newspapers was approved by the PRD department of the central government. Then they were printed. Pratul said that under the MISA law without bail provision, lakhs of politicians, intellectuals and journalists were kept in jail for years. Social organizations like RSS were targeted and banned. The RSS chief was arrested. The judiciary was also targeted on a large scale. Ignoring the seniority of the three most senior Supreme Court judges, the fourth senior judge in the seniority order was made the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Pratul said that just for the sake of politics of power and convenience, JMM is forgetting the fact that during the period of emergency, men were forcibly sterilized. An atmosphere of fear and terror prevailed in the entire country. Though Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister, indirectly her son Sanjay Gandhi used to run the government.

JMM does not remember that Indira Gandhi had imposed the Emergency of 1975 only to save her chair when her membership was cancelled by the Allahabad High Court. It is clear that loot, corruption and power are her priorities. Pratul said that during this dark period of Emergency, by implementing the 42nd Amendment, Indira Gandhi had reduced the powers of the State Government, Supreme Court and High Court and vested all the powers in the PMO.

Pratul said that JMM, abandoning all political decorum and integrity, today refused to accept Emergency as Constitution Murder Day. Democratic values have no place in JMM.
