New Delhi: Five phases of voting have been completed for the Lok Sabha elections. Two phases are still remaining. Meanwhile, political analyst Prashant Kishore has predicted the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the BJP will get the same number of seats as last time. Apart from this, he has predicted that if PM Modi's government is formed at the center for the third time, then big decisions can be taken at some places.
Prashant Kishore, popularly known as PK, said that in the third term of PM Modi, petroleum can be brought under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the financial autonomy of the states can be significantly curbed. In an interview, PK predicted change in the Modi government's fight against corruption.
PK said- I think Modi 3.0 government will have a great start. The Center will have more power and resources than before. An important attempt could also be to curtail the financial autonomy of the states. He said that since there is no widespread anger against the PM, BJP will win around 303 seats.
Prashant Kishore said that the states currently have three main sources of revenue. Petroleum, liquor and land. I would not be surprised if petroleum is brought under GST.
Let us tell you that at present petroleum products like petrol, diesel and natural gas are out of GST. There has been a long standing demand from the industry to bring petroleum producers under the ambit of GST. If this happens, the state's revenue will suffer a lot. By bringing petrol under GST, the states will become more dependent on the Center to get their share of tax.
