Prasar Bharti’s OTT platform Waves will offer clean family entertainment: Navneet Singh Sehgal

Addressing a press conference on Waves OTT at the 55th International Film Festival in Goa on Thursday, Prasar Bharti Chairman Navneet Singh Sehgal said that as a national broadcaster it is our duty to take clean family entertainment to all sections of the society. . The need for an OTT platform from Prasar Bharati was felt which led to the launch of Waves. He said that apart from news and sports, programs on current affairs should also be made available to the citizens. Sehgal also said that the platform will showcase India’s rich cultural heritage and its history. He said that except some major content, there is no charge for downloading Waves OTT and watching the content in it.

Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi said that the public broadcaster needs to be present on all platforms as we have to provide information and content to the audience of our country. He said that this medium will be very useful for all those Indians who have moved away from their roots but want to stay connected to their culture. Prasar Bharati CEO further informed that as of now, more than 10,000 films and 40,000 to 50,000 hours of content will be made available through Waves OTT.

‘Fauji 2.0’ will be available on Waves OTT

‘Fauji 2.0’ is a modern adaptation of the iconic 1980s Shah Rukh Khan show Fauji. Producer Sandeep Singh, lead actors Gauhar Khan, Vicky Jain and other cast and crew also attended the press conference. Talking about this new project, actress Gauhar Khan said that Fauji 2 reflects the lives of those who represent and protect India. Talking about Doordarshan, actor Vicky Jain said that all the programs of Doordarshan are brands in themselves. He said that many of us have watched Ramayana and Mahabharata with family during the pandemic. He said Doordarshan also reaches viewers who do not have access to cable TV. Sandeep Singh, known for producing films like Mary Kom, Aligarh and Sarabjit, said that it is an honor to have one’s program on the Doordarshan platform.

‘Kakabhushundi Ramayan’ will also be available on Waves OTT

Shiv Sagar, grandson of renowned film director and producer Ramanand Sagar, also joined the press conference and spoke about how this epic series will appeal to the young audience. He told how more than 350 versions of Ramayana from across the world were researched to create ‘Kakbhushandi Ramayana’. He said that the best stories have been taken and presented in a new way. OTT platform will provide a suitable platform to the rich history of India.

With the launch of this platform, India’s iconic public broadcaster Doordarshan has entered the platform space to meet the growing demand for digital streaming services. The platform aims to reignite nostalgia while embracing modern digital trends by offering a rich mix of classic content and contemporary programming.

Waves is entering as a large aggregator OTT with inclusive India stories that combine Indian culture with international perspectives. This platform is available in more than 12 languages ​​– Hindi, English, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Punjabi, Assamese. It will present more than 10 genres of information and entertainment. The platform features video on demand, free-to-play gaming, radio streaming, live TV streaming, 65 live channels, multiple in-app integrations for video and gaming content and an e-commerce platform with the help of Open Network for Digital Commerce.
