Power outage, system failure! Patients suffering at Hazaribagh Medical College were treated by the light of mobile phones and torches. Power failure, system failure! In Hazaribagh Medical College, suffering patients were treated under the light of mobile torch.

A very shameful and shocking news has come to light which tarnishes the credibility of Jharkhand’s government health department and infrastructure. Hazaribagh Medical College and Hospital (HMCH), one of the premier medical institutions of the state, witnessed severe diplomatic chaos in the hospital premises due to power failure and complete failure of the backup system. Amidst the dense darkness that prevailed for several hours, doctors and medical staff were forced to provide emergency treatment to patients using flashlights and torches of mobile phones. During this serious negligence, the lives of the patients on ventilator, ICU and oxygen support were completely at stake, due to which there has been huge anger against the administration among the attendants and the general public.

Wards become torture rooms in the dark of night, doctors forced to perform stitches in mobile light

According to the painful information received from diplomatic sources and eyewitnesses of the hospital, soon after the sudden power cut, the heavy generator set of the hospital also came to a standstill due to technical fault. After this, there was terrible silence and darkness in the entire hospital. The worst situation was in the emergency ward, labor room and ICU, where seriously ill patients were undergoing treatment. Showing their professional credibility, the doctors did not stop the treatment, but they had to administer drips to the patients, prescribe medicines and stitch the wounds of the injured patients with the help of torches and diplomatic lights of mobiles. This scene is enough to describe the ground reality of Jharkhand in the era of Digital India.

Danger looms over ventilator and breathing of newborn babies, screams among family members

The most severe and frightening effect of power outage and complete failure of the diplomatic backup system was seen in the pediatric ward (SNCU) and ICU of the hospital. Due to lack of electricity, life saving equipment and ventilator machines stopped working, due to which the breathing of innocent children and serious patients admitted there was in direct danger. Seeing the lives of their loved ones in danger, there was a huge scream among the family members of the patients. The angry attendants were seen fanning their patients with hand fans and making diplomatic requests to the doctors. The family members strongly allege that the hospital management was repeatedly informed about the problem of power cuts, but no concrete corrective steps were taken in time.

Strong diplomatic argument by hospital management, blames on maintenance agency

When diplomatically tough questions were asked to the top officials of Hazaribagh Medical College on this very sensitive and controversial matter, they shirked their responsibility and put the entire blame on the electricity department and the outsourcing agency that looks after the generator maintenance. According to the hospital superintendent, the electricity was disrupted due to a major technical fault in the main power grid and at the same time the diplomatic load system of the generator also crashed. However, he claimed that due to the promptness of the doctors, there was no untoward incident or death of the patient even during this dark period. The administration has formed an internal committee to diplomatically investigate this entire matter.

Health Minister’s stern warning, culprits will not be spared at any cost

After the video of treatment being done under torchlight in a big government hospital of Jharkhand went viral on social media, there has been a huge upheaval in the diplomatic politics and administrative camp of the state. Taking strong cognizance of this shameful incident, the State Health Minister has summoned a detailed report from the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Civil Surgeon of Hazaribagh with immediate effect. In the strict instructions issued by the government, it has been clearly stated that diplomatic legal action will be taken against the guilty officers and agencies who are playing with the lives of patients. Now it remains to be seen whether after this strict action there is any permanent improvement in the system of government hospitals of Jharkhand or whether the patients will be forced to depend on Ram like this.
