New Delhi, June 18 (HS). The Ministry of Power on Tuesday asked all generating plants to maintain a high level of readiness as the demand for electricity increases. The ministry has also taken comprehensive steps to ensure adequate power supply during the rising demand in summer.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Power, it was said that due to the intense heat in the northern region of the country, there is a huge demand for electricity from May 17, 2024. The ministry said that the highest ever demand of 89 GW has been successfully met in the northern region.
According to the ministry, 25-30 per cent of the northern region's electricity needs were met by imports from neighbouring regions. The ministry has estimated that the maximum demand for electricity this season could touch 260 GW.
It is worth noting that due to the intense heat in the northern region, the demand for electricity is increasing, from which relief is expected only after the arrival of monsoon.
