Chandigarh: The bugle has been blown for the Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. As all the parties are preparing to face each other in the electoral fray, there is a possibility that the Congress and AAP will join hands to take on the BJP in Haryana. Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh has welcomed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's interest in an alliance with the AAP. He said, defeating the BJP is our priority. However, this decision will be taken with the consent of the party's national convener Kejriwal.
The names of 34 candidates were finalised in the Congress Election Committee meeting on Monday for the Haryana Assembly elections. Sources said that at this time senior leader Rahul Gandhi has expressed interest in the possibility of an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party.
Welcoming these reports, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh said that defeating the BJP is the priority of every opposition party when elections are held on 90 seats in Haryana on October 5. I welcome Rahul Gandhi's interest in joining Haryana, but the final decision will be taken with the consent of AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
On the other hand, Congress' Haryana in-charge Deepak Babaria said that the party's final list will be announced by Wednesday. This will put an end to the speculations about wrestler Vinesh Phogat. The state screening committee has released a list of 49 names, out of which 34 have been approved and 15 names are pending. Permission has been given to issue tickets to 22 outgoing MLAs.
At the same time, assembly elections are to be held in Jharkhand by the end of this year. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday. He assured a huge victory of India Block in the assembly elections. Soren and Congress leaders held this meeting after former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren joined BJP.
