Due to increasing air pollution, the situation has worsened not only in Delhi but also in the neighboring country Pakistan. Pakistan’s Punjab government has announced a complete lockdown in Lahore and Multan for three days next week as the air quality index reached dangerous levels. AQI has crossed 2000 in both these cities.

According to media reports, complete lockdown will be in force in Lahore and Multan from next Friday, Saturday and Sunday, while the situation will be monitored on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Further lockdown may be imposed if air quality deteriorates.

The minister compared it to the Covid period

Pakistan’s Minister of Information and Environmental Protection Maryam Aurangzeb, while addressing a press conference in Lahore, spoke about the seriousness of the situation and compared the health risks posed by smog to the risks of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said respiratory problems have increased due to the smog, which has affected more than 600,000 people in Punjab in just one week and hospitalized 65,000 people in the last week. In view of this, leaves of paramedical staff have been canceled and OPD timings have been extended till 8 pm.

These restrictions were imposed

The Punjab government has already sealed many shops, marriage halls and restaurants in view of the smog. Health emergency has been imposed in Peshawar, Khyber and Pakhtunkhwa areas of Pakistan. Bus services, schools and universities have been closed during this lockdown. Additionally, hotels and restaurants will not operate after 8 pm and all private offices will operate at 50% capacity.
