New Delhi, May 15 (Hindustan Reporter) Due to increase in cases of stubble burning, the pollution level in the capital Delhi has once again reached the bad category. Delhi's air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 243 on Wednesday.
In view of the increasing levels of pollution, the sub-committee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) called an emergency meeting on Wednesday to review the situation. The sub-committee of GRAP, after comprehensively reviewing the air quality scenario, directed the concerned Pollution Control Board (PCB)/Committee and concerned stakeholders/agencies of NCR to take immediate precautionary measures.
The Commission focused on dust abatement measures and their monitoring by conducting intensive campaigns at major pollution hotspots in the region, increasing the number of water sprinkling and mechanical road cleaning equipment in the area, fire incidents in and around NCR and open municipal concrete. Instructed to keep a close watch on burning of waste (MSW) and ensure all preventive measures and take strict action against those violating the statutory instructions of CPCB.
Further, for effective implementation of prescribed measures, Dust Control and Management Cells (DCMC) in road ownership agencies have been set up to keep a close watch on all road construction, maintenance projects, enforcement mechanism of all dust control measures at NCR State PCB and DPCC C&D project sites. Instructions have also been issued to speed up the process.
