Bhopal, 1 November (HS). Firecrackers burnt on the night of Diwali have polluted the vital air of Madhya Pradesh. Due to firecrackers, the air pollution level of the state has increased three times in one night. The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 408 at around 9.30 am on Friday in DD Nagar, Gwalior. Whereas in Gwal Toli of Indore it was 399. Whereas in Bhopal, Jabalpur, Ratlam, Ujjain and Dewas, AQI of 314, 315, 370, 322 and 316 have been recorded respectively, which is still above the danger mark.

However, despite fireworks, AQI has reduced due to air flow in many cities. Air flow means that pollution reduces due to strong wind or high air pressure. Talking about the air quality index of Bhopal city, the AQI on the live monitoring system present in the environment complex was 284 on Thursday. AQI of TT Nagar was recorded at 238 on Friday morning. At the same time, AQI in Shahpura area was 176 on Thursday afternoon. By late night it reached 314.

According to the report of Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB), the maximum pollution is being caused by particulate matter (PM) 2.5 i.e. fine particles of dust across the city. The main reason why AQI is increasing everywhere is PM 2.5. The Health Department has issued an advisory regarding possible health problems due to cold and air and noise pollution caused by excessive fireworks. The department says that pollution can have adverse effects on children, elderly and sick people. Harmful elements present in the air such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and small particles (particulate matter) can be harmful to health. According to the Health Department, the air quality index is dangerous between 200 to 500. Pollution can cause problems like irritation of eyes, throat and skin, difficulty in breathing, headache and dizziness.
