Maharashtra Police has invoked sections of the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against all the 26 accused arrested in the murder of former minister Baba Siddiqui. The Crime Branch of the police has so far arrested 26 accused in this case including the main shooter Shiv Kumar Gautam. At present the investigation of the case is going on.
According to Maharashtra Police, several sections of Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act have also been imposed against these accused. So far 26 accused have been arrested in this murder case. Three accused in this case – Shubham Rameshwar Lonkar, Zeeshan Mohammad Akhtar and Anmol Bishnoi are still absconding.
The case was registered at Nirmal Nagar police station as CR No. 589/2024 and later re-registered as DCB CID CR No. 86/2024. In this case, action was taken under sections 103 (1), 109, 125 and 3 (5) of the Indian Judicial Code as well as sections 3, 5, 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and sections 37 and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. A Mumbai Police official said that confessions given before the police under MCOCA are admissible as evidence in the court. It is also difficult to get bail under MCOCA. It is noteworthy that 66-year-old former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui was shot dead by three assailants outside the office of his son Zeeshan Siddiqui in Bandra area of Mumbai on October 12.
