The order will affect districts like Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Gujarat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Chiniot, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh as well as Lodhar. Apart from this, amusement parks, museums and schools in Vehri and Khanewal will also remain closed due to smoke.
The air quality index (AQI) in Multan, the largest city in southern Punjab, was recorded at 2,135 between 8 am and 9 am on Friday. According to IQAir, the concentration of PM 2.5 (fine particles in the air, which are most harmful to health) was 947 micrograms per cubic meter, which is 189.4 times higher than the World Health Organization guidelines.
According to Dawn report, the AQI in Multan reached 980 by 10 pm, at least three times the dangerous mark of 300. The Education Department of Punjab has ordered the closure of tuition centres. According to Geo News, the government notification states that private and government schools up to higher secondary level in the affected districts will remain closed till November 17.
