Poison mixed in Delhi’s air again, breathing difficult! Now will only the ‘fake’ rain falling from the sky save us?

Delhi air quality today: If you woke up this morning feeling a sore throat or irritated eyes, you’re not alone. Delhi’s air remains ‘very poor’ for the fifth consecutive day. However, there is some relief today compared to yesterday due to the blowing winds, but the danger is not over yet.

How serious is the situation?

There is hardly any corner of the city where the air is clean. According to government data, the situation is most worrying in Delhi’s Anand Vihar, where the Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached 403. This level is considered ‘severe’, meaning breathing the air here is very dangerous for your health. At the same time, even in areas like ITO, AQI is beyond 316, which comes in the ‘very poor’ category.

The surprising thing is that Delhi has become the fifth most polluted city in the country. The Meteorological Department says that there will be fog in the sky for the coming few days and no significant improvement in the air quality is expected.

What is the ray of hope?

Amidst this suffocating pollution, a big news is coming out. The Delhi government is now preparing to take the help of a completely new technology to reduce pollution, whose name is ‘Artificial Rain’ or ‘Cloud Seeding’.

What is this artificial rain?

This is a technique in which some chemicals like silver iodide are sprayed on the clouds with the help of airplanes. Due to this the clouds become heavy and it starts raining. Due to this rain, the dust and pollution particles floating in the air mix with water and come to the ground, due to which the sky becomes completely clear.

Delhi government has also conducted a successful trial of this project in collaboration with experts from IIT-Kanpur. It is being told that if the weather conditions (like clouds in the sky and moisture in the air) remain favorable around October 29, then for the first time, rain can be made in Delhi using this technology.

If this experiment is successful, it can prove to be a huge step to save Delhi from the pollution and smog that occurs every year. At present, Delhiites are being advised to take precautions to avoid this poisonous air.
