Financial assistance up to Rs 30,000 for 1 kW solar system, Rs 60,000 for 2 kW system and Rs 78,000 for 3 kW or more capacity system is provided by the government. If a beneficiary requires a loan to install solar panels, the subsidy amount can also be adjusted directly into their loan account. Apart from this, many state governments also provide additional subsidies at their level. For example, in Uttar Pradesh, solar systems of 3 kW or more also get an additional state subsidy of Rs 30,000, further increasing the overall benefit.

The application process to avail the benefits of PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme is extremely simple and transparent. First of all you have to go to its official website pmsuryaghar.gov.in. After this, select the option of ‘Apply for Rooftop Solar’ given on the homepage. Now select your state and your electricity distribution company (DISCOM). After this, login to the portal by entering your consumer number, mobile number and email ID. After logging in, fill the application form and submit it. After getting feasibility approval, get the solar panels fitted from an authorized vendor registered by the DISCOM of your area. After completion of installation, apply for a net meter and after receiving the inspection and commissioning certificate, upload your bank details and canceled check on the portal, after which the subsidy amount will be transferred directly to your bank account within a few days.
