Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Guyana. In this visit, which took place after 56 years, 10 important agreements were signed between India and the South American country Guyana. These 10 agreements include hydrocarbon, agriculture, cultural, health, energy, digital payment system, pharmaceutical and defence. Talking to the media, the Prime Minister said that Guyana’s cooperation will help India a lot in energy security. President Irfan reached the airport to give a grand welcome to the Prime Minister.
Long term plans will be made between the two countries. He said he went to Guyana 24 years ago as a common man. Now, 56 years later, his visit here as Prime Minister of India will go a long way towards building closer ties between Guyana and India. He said that I already have a personal connection with this country.
What important agreements were reached?
Of the 10 agreements signed between India and Guyana, one was in the field of hydrocarbons. In which it was agreed to supply crude oil from there, supply natural gas from Guyana and develop infrastructure to increase such facilities. There was also an agreement between the two countries on issues related to agriculture.
Agriculture and related trade between the two countries
It was agreed to use new technologies, resources and scientific methods to enhance agriculture and related trade between the two countries. An agreement on medical products was signed between India and Guyana, under which both countries agreed on the Indian Pharmacopoeia. Under Jan Aushadhi Scheme, India will supply affordable medicines to CARICOM countries.
Collaboration with India’s medical products sector will be promoted
This will promote cooperation with these countries and India’s medical products sector. India Stake Agreement signed between Guyana and India. By this, an agreement was reached between the two countries to leverage all the digital innovations of India as well as the capabilities being created for the same to implement digital payments in Guyana with the help of UPI. Defense, culture, science, sports and news broadcasting were also agreed upon in the agreement between the two countries.
