A massive search operation was launched in forest areas of various districts on Thursday to trace terrorists involved in recent attacks in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Police said a woman had reported suspicious movements of two persons, following which police along with paramilitary forces launched a search operation in Narwal bypass area on the outskirts of Jammu.
4 terrorist attacks in 4 days
In the last four days, terrorists have carried out terror attacks at four places in Reasi, Kathua and Doda districts. Nine devotees and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan were martyred in the attacks. While many people including 7 security personnel have been injured. Two suspected Pakistani terrorists were also killed in an encounter with security forces in Kathua and a large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from them.
According to PTI, the army, police and paramilitary forces launched a search operation on Thursday morning in Kota Top, Chattagalla and adjoining areas of Doda district, where militants, including two policemen, were killed in separate encounters on Tuesday and seven security personnel were injured on Wednesday. Police on Wednesday released sketches of four militants involved in two attacks in the district and announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh for information leading to their arrest.
20 lakh reward announced
Earlier on Sunday, the police announced a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh on the terrorist involved in the attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district and also released his sketch. 9 people were killed and 41 people were injured in this attack.
Officials said search operations were underway in Reasi and Rajouri districts. They said a man with a face resembling that of the terrorist was detained from a bus in Reasi in the afternoon and taken for questioning.
Alert in many districts
He said that search operations are also being carried out in Nowshera of Rajouri and adjoining Poonch. Security forces have also been put on alert in Kathua, Samba and Jammu districts after receiving information about terrorist threat. Security forces killed two terrorists in a fierce encounter that started on Tuesday night in Kathua and continued for more than 15 hours. A CRPF jawan was also martyred in the operation, while a civilian was injured.
Police on Wednesday issued an advisory urging residents of Jammu region to remain alert to the movement of suspicious persons and objects. The advisory was issued following intelligence inputs indicating terror threat in parts of Rajouri and Jammu districts.
