There was again a political upheaval in the country’s politics when the top leadership of the country made the sharpest attack ever on the working style of the opposition parties and their prominent faces. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a huge public meeting, directly targeted the Congress Party and its former president Rahul Gandhi. Without naming Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi called him a ‘failed product of Congress’, which is being repeatedly unsuccessfully tried to relaunch. The Prime Minister alleged in very strong words that whenever the country is touching new heights of development and India is making its mark on global platforms, then the opposition leaders go to foreign lands and play the dirty game of tarnishing the country’s democratic institutions and its image. After this statement of PM, the political temperature of the country has reached sky high.
Addressing the crowd gathered at the public meeting, Prime Minister Modi said that an old and historical party is today going through a severe crisis of thoughtlessness and leadership. He said that the people of the country have repeatedly rejected a particular product in the elections, but instead of learning from its past mistakes, the Congress Party is busy wrapping the same ‘failed product’ in a new wrapper and serving it to the country again and again. The PM said that in a democracy, the public is supreme and when the public completely rejects any thinking and face, then efforts to impose it forcibly can never succeed. He sarcastically said that the opposition, dejected after repeated failures, is now working to create obstacles in the way of the country’s development.
The most offensive part of Prime Minister Modi’s speech was the one where he expressed deep displeasure over the foreign tours of opposition leaders and the statements made there. PM Modi said that for the first time in the history of India, it is being seen that a prominent opposition leader of the country goes to a foreign soil and raises questions on the democracy, judiciary and electoral process of his own country. He said politics has its place and domestic differences should be resolved within the country, but going to foreign forums to insult India and expecting interference from foreign powers deeply hurts the country’s self-respect. The PM said that today the world is praising India’s economic progress, digital revolution and strong foreign policy, but it is a matter of regret that the opposition of our own country is not able to digest this growing credibility of India.
During his speech, the Prime Minister, while presenting the report card of his government’s achievements, compared the thinking of the opposition with the spirit of nation building. He said that on one hand our government is working day and night to fulfill the dreams of 140 crore countrymen, providing permanent houses, ration, health insurance to the poor and new opportunities to the youth, while on the other hand the opposition is only wasting its energy in spreading negativity and confusion. The PM stressed that the people of the country have now woken up and understand very well the difference between those who work and those who merely make speeches and go abroad to complain. He claimed that in the coming times also the public will teach a befitting lesson to those doing anti-development and negative politics.
Immediately after this explosive attack by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sharp reactions have started coming from the Congress Party and all the leaders of the opposition alliance. Congress spokespersons and senior leaders have termed the PM’s statements as a conspiracy to divert attention from unemployment, inflation and basic issues. The opposition argues that in a democracy it is their constitutional right to criticize the wrong policies of the government, whether inside or outside the country. However, PM Modi’s statement of ‘failed product’ has given rise to a new debate from social media to TV debuts. This heated war of words between the party and the opposition before the upcoming elections clearly shows that the upcoming political contest is going to be very interesting and aggressive.
