Brunei: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited Brunei's famous Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque. This mosque was built by the father of the current Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

Brunei's Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Dato Ustaz Awang Badruddin welcomed the Prime Minister at the mosque. The Prime Minister also watched a video showing the history of the mosque. The country's Health Minister Mohammad Isham was also present during this time.
The mosque is named after Omar Ali Saifuddien III, the 28th Sultan of Brunei (father of the current Sultan). Its construction was completed in 1958.
People from the Indian community were also present to welcome the Prime Minister. Currently, around 14,000 people from India live in Brunei.
Modi has arrived in Brunei on the first leg of his two-nation visit. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country on a bilateral visit. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had visited Brunei in October 2013 to attend the 11th ASEAN-India Summit.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that Brunei is an important partner in India's 'Act East' policy and Indo-Pacific vision. The two countries have friendly relations based on mutual respect and understanding on bilateral and multilateral issues. The two have thousands of years of historical, cultural and traditional ties.
