PM Modi thanks Qatar for the release of eight Indians, PM Modi meets Emir of Qatar

Couplet: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to strengthen bilateral relations. There was agreement between the two leaders on many issues including energy, space, bilateral trade. A resolve was expressed to strengthen cultural ties between the two countries.

PM Modi thanked the Qatar government and Emir Sher Tamim bin for freeing the eight Indians and appreciated the decision of the Qatar government. Not only this, he appreciated the decisions taken by the Qatar government keeping in mind the Indian community living in Qatar. This is the second visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Qatar. Earlier in June 2016, Modi had visited Qatar for the first time. After a two-day visit to the UAE, PM Modi reached Qatar's capital Doha and held bilateral talks with the Sheikh at the majestic Amiri Palace. Modi described this visit as wonderful.

Before meeting Amir Tamim bin Hamad, PM Modi also spoke to Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman and met Deputy Amir Abdullah bin Hamad. Qatar and India agreed on various issues like energy, space, technology, trade, investment etc. The natural gas agreement between Qatar and India was extended till 2029. An official statement from Qatar's Foreign Ministry said the heads of both countries showed determination to further strengthen bilateral relations.
