PM Modi Singapore visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Singapore, met his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong. The meeting discussed elevating bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
PM Modi was given a grand welcome at the Singapore Parliament House and signed the visitor's book before the debate. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on Twitter, “A new chapter in relations: forging a comprehensive strategic partnership. PM @narendramodi and PM LawrenceWongST had a fruitful meeting in Singapore today.”
The leaders reviewed various aspects of their relationship, including advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalisation, healthcare and medicine, skill development and sustainability. Modi and Wong met soon after Wong took charge and PM Modi began his third term as Prime Minister. They also exchanged four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) after their talks. This is a significant step towards enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
Later, Prime Minister Modi will meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. He will also meet Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. Lee will host lunch for Modi during his visit.
Modi's programme also includes meetings with Singaporean business leaders and interactions with those involved in the country's semiconductor ecosystem. Additionally, the two Prime Ministers will visit a semiconductor manufacturing facility to explore further opportunities for cooperation in this sector.
Notably, Modi arrived in Singapore after completing his visit to Brunei, which was the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister there. He was warmly welcomed by the Indian community upon his arrival in Singapore.
The visit deepens relations between India and Singapore by focusing on mutual growth and progress in various fields. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership aims to foster closer cooperation and effectively address common challenges.
