At least 38 people died due to heavy rains and landslides in several eastern states including West Bengal due to the impact of cyclone Ramal. Along with this, now PM Modi has announced financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives and were injured due to cyclone Ramal.
He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the families of those who lost their lives due to cyclone Ramal in Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and West Bengal and Rs 50,000 to the injured. The cyclone has also affected road and rail connectivity in eight northeastern states. 29 people died in Mizoram, of which 25 were killed in a mine collapse in Aizawl district, while four people died in Nagaland, three in Assam and two in Meghalaya.
The rain coupled with strong winds caused landslides, uprooting trees and of electricity Poles were uprooted and electricity and internet services were disrupted. Several trains were either cancelled or partially cancelled due to waterlogging between New Haflong-Jatinga Lampur section and Ditokera yard under Lumding division of North East Frontier Railway.
