What items should not be purchased during Pitru Paksha?
Sweets should not be bought during Pitru Paksha. Astrology says that if you want to give sweets to someone on behalf of ancestors, then you can buy sweets, but avoid bringing sweets for yourself to eat at home.
You should not buy new ornaments or jewellery during Pitru Paksha as jewellery made of gold, silver or any other metal bought during Shradh causes harm instead of benefit and also affects your financial condition badly.
During Pitru Paksha, new clothes are bought only to offer tarpan or donation to the ancestors. In such a situation, do not buy new clothes for yourself even by mistake during Pitru Paksha, otherwise the ancestors may get angry and you may suffer Pitru Dosh.
If you consume tamasic things like meat, garlic-onion, alcohol, cigarette etc. then do not do so during Pitru Paksha. It is believed that consuming all these things during Pitru Paksha causes the ancestors to suffer in Pitruloka.
