Dera Baba Nanak: Just as the year 2024 is going away leaving behind its memories, similarly the new year is bringing a special gift for the devotees who visit Gurudwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib Ji. Many new changes have been made on the Kartarpur Corridor on the India-Pakistan border, which are making it more attractive and convenient.

The gates on the bridge built by the Indian government on the border are decorated in the colors of the tricolor, while Pakistan has painted its gates in its national colours. Additionally, BSF check posts, orange posts, and high mask lights have been installed for the devotees, making the yatra route more safe and illuminated.

Construction and beautification of Kartarpur Corridor

The National Highway Authority of India has constructed the 3.6 km long four-lane Kartarpur Corridor and 100 meter long bridge at a cost of over Rs 100 crore. The project was inaugurated on 9 November 2019, on the 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. India completed its portion of construction within the stipulated time, while Pakistan completed its portion in July 2019.

India has decorated the four-lane corridor as well as painted 30-by-30 feet gates for the arrival and departure of devotees. Various types of lights have been installed on the corridor, which make the place extremely beautiful at night. Additionally, the Land Port Authority of India has completed touchup work from the terminal to the Zero Line Bridge, and arrangements for screening pilgrims at check posts have also been strengthened.

Pakistan’s contribution and issues

Pakistan, on its part, has also made special efforts to decorate the gates and corridors. They have arranged for lights at the border and painted the gates in national colours. However, at the time of the inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor, several meetings were held between India and Pakistan regarding the span bridge to be built on the Ravi River.

As per its promise, India constructed a four-lane bridge up to the zero line, but Pakistan was able to construct only 100 meters and left the rest as two-lane. This situation still remains a topic of discussion between the two countries.

new year gift

This corridor will provide a more convenient and beautiful experience to the pilgrims visiting Kartarpur Sahib in the coming year. This step has become a symbol of new enthusiasm and happiness for the devotees.

For the devotees visiting Gurudwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib, this corridor is not only religious but also a symbol of peace and harmony between the two countries.
