PIL in Bombay High Court on the issue of black marketing of Coldplay concert tickets

Mumbai: A PIL has been filed in the Bombay High Court against the backdrop of alleged irregularities in the online sale of tickets for the much-awaited concert of British band Coldplay to be held in Navi Mumbai in January 2025, seeking regulation to curb black money. has sought. The PIL, filed by lawyer Amit Vyas, had said that malpractices and black marketing were taking place during the sale of tickets for big events like concerts, live shows etc. The petitioner claimed that such malpractices were also seen when Coldplay concert tickets became available on the Book My Show platform last month.

Vyas's lawyer told the court that some secondary websites were still selling KondPlay concert tickets at higher prices. Noting that the police investigation is ongoing, the court has scheduled the hearing in November after the Diwali holidays.

The PIL claimed that such irregularities were seen in IPL matches, Cricket World Cup matches and concerts of Taylor Swift and Diljit Dosanjh.

Organizers and ticket partners defraud fans by listing tickets at a higher price on secondary ticket websites.

The PIL alleged that online tickets were sold through the Book My Show platform in such a manner that people were logged in before the tickets were available and were not given access. Tickets for all three shows were shown selling out within minutes, while other websites appeared to be available at higher prices.

Vyas had lodged a police complaint last month and the Economic Offenses Wing is investigating. The petition said that people are being deprived of their fundamental right to participate in public events. The petition claimed that the rules were not being followed due to lack of effective regulation in the ticketing sector.
