Prayagraj, 08 August (HS). A PIL has been filed in Allahabad High Court demanding disqualification of 99 MPs of Congress party, confiscation of party's election symbol and suspension of party's registration. Social activist Bharti Singh has filed this PIL through advocates OP Singh and Shashwat Anand. It is likely to be heard next week.

It has been said in the petition that in the last Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party had promised to deposit Rs. 8500 per month in the bank accounts of poor, backward, Dalit and minority people from July after the elections under a guarantee card scheme, which turned out to be a false promise. Under this promise, a guarantee was given to give money every month to those who voted in favour of the Congress and its allies. In this promise letter, the lure of giving money in exchange for votes was given. This promise letter of the Congress party has the signatures of President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. There is also an acknowledgement receipt. Due to which people got the belief that they will get money for voting.

The Election Commission had also issued an advisory on this on 2 May 24. But the Congress party did not implement it. The petitioner says that this act of the Congress party is a blatant violation of Section 121(1)(A) of the Representation of the People Act. It is also a punishable offense under the Indian Justice Code and the Indian Penal Code. The petitioner has given a representation to the Election Commission to take action, but the commission did not take any action. On which this PIL has been filed.
