Every day starts not only with new rays of the sun but also with new prices of petrol and diesel. In everyday life, from office-goers to traders delivering fruits, vegetables and groceries, fuel prices have a direct impact on everyone’s pocket.
In the global market, due to peace talks between America and Iran, the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz has become normal, due to which the international prices of Brent crude have fallen below $77 per barrel. Despite this, oil marketing companies (OMCs) in the domestic market have not made any major changes in the prices even today, 24 June 2026. Below are the latest fuel prices released by the country’s major oil companies every morning at 6 am.

Why have prices remained stable for the last two years?
There has been a remarkable stability in the Indian fuel market since May 2022. At that time, huge cuts in excise duty and VAT were made by the Central Government and many state governments to provide relief to the general public from inflation. Although there have been many fluctuations in crude oil prices in the international market during this period (such as the recent US-Iran tensions and peace talks), Indian oil companies have kept the prices relatively stable for domestic consumers.
How is the price of fuel decided in your city?
The final price of petrol-diesel in the retail market mainly depends on these 5 big factors:
-
International price of Crude Oil: Since petrol and diesel are refined from crude oil, the recession and boom of the global market directly impacts India.
-
Rupee against dollar: India imports more than 80% of its crude oil requirement from abroad and the payment for it is made in dollars. Imports become expensive when the rupee weakens.
-
Government Taxes (Tax & Duty): Central government’s excise duty and state governments’ VAT together constitute almost half of the retail price of fuel. This is the reason why rates are different in different states.
-
Cost of Refining: The processing cost of bringing crude oil to factories and converting it into usable petrol-diesel is also added to it.
-
Demand & Supply: When fuel consumption increases during festivals, farming season or extreme summer and winter, it impacts the market equations.
