Petrol Diesel Price: Is petrol and diesel cheaper or expensive today? Check the latest price of your city from Delhi to Lucknow

According to the latest rates released by the government oil marketing companies (IOCL, BPCL, HPCL) today at the national level, there has been no major change in the prices of petrol and diesel. Amidst the fluctuations in the prices of crude oil (Brent crude) in the global market, fuel prices in the domestic market have remained largely stable. Every day at 6 am, the country’s oil marketing companies review the retail selling price of fuel based on foreign exchange rates and international crude oil standards. Due to different VAT imposed at the state level, freight cost and local municipal taxes, there is a difference of a few rupees in the price of petrol and diesel in every state and city.

Fuel rates today in major metros of the country and major cities of Uttar Pradesh are as follows:

  • New Delhi: Petrol ₹102.12 per liter Diesel ₹95.20 per liter

  • Mumbai: Petrol ₹111.21 per liter Diesel ₹97.83 per liter

  • Kolkata: Petrol ₹113.51 per liter Diesel ₹99.82 per liter

  • Chennai: Petrol ₹107.76 per liter Diesel ₹99.55 per liter

  • Lucknow: Petrol ₹101.89 per liter Diesel ₹95.36 per liter

  • Noida/Greater Noida: Petrol ₹102.35 per liter Diesel ₹95.80 per liter

  • Bengaluru: Petrol ₹111.68 per liter Diesel ₹99.56 per liter

  • Hyderabad: Petrol ₹116.15 per liter Diesel ₹104.23 per liter

Often this question arises in the minds of consumers that when oil comes out from the refinery at the same price, then why is the price different in different cities. The biggest reason for this is the value added tax i.e. VAT and cess collected by the state governments. Apart from this, the transportation cost (freight charge) of delivering fuel from the refinery or depot to the respective petrol pump also varies according to the distance. Also, the Retail Selling Price (RSP) is decided after adding each dealer’s commission and local municipal body tax. For example, there is a slight difference in prices between Lucknow and Delhi due to the VAT slab imposed in Uttar Pradesh and freight charges.
