Persons born in Pakistan and living in Goa got Indian citizenship.

Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Shane Sebastian Perera was brought by his parents to his native village in Goa, India, just four months after his birth. However, it took 43 years for Perera to get Indian citizenship.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday handed over the Indian citizenship certificate to Pakistan-born Christian Shane Sebastian Perera under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

Shane is the second person in Goa to get Indian citizenship. Earlier in August, another Pakistani national named Joseph Francis Perera was granted Indian citizenship.

Shane, originally from Demelo Vado in Anjuna, North Goa, said his parents were going to Karachi. Where he was born in August 1981.

His family returned to Goa four months after his birth. Where he completed his schooling. He married Maria Gloria Fernandez, an Indian national, in 2012.

Shen said that his efforts to get Indian citizenship have been unsuccessful for the past few years. Eventually, inspired by Joseph Pereira, I applied again for citizenship.
