Kishanganj, 23 September (HS). Hundreds of people and shopkeepers in the district's biggest business market, Bishanpur Bazaar, expressed their anger on Monday over the installation of smart meters. Traders have registered their protest against the installation of smart meters by keeping their shops closed. Angry people have also demonstrated by setting fire on the road.

People told that on 19th September, the electricity department cut off the electricity of two shops in Jame Masjid Campus located in Bishanpur Bazaar. The shopkeepers had refused to install smart meters. The shopkeepers allege that the electricity department is forcibly pressuring them to install smart meters.

People said that their demand is that the government should first make 250 units of electricity free. Along with this, people said that due to some reason or the other, there is power cut for hours every day. This should be fixed first. Departmental maintenance personnel should be appointed in every feeder along with manpower. For electricity connection, JE is taking two thousand rupees in the name of meter. This should be stopped.
