People who eat packaged food should be careful! ICMR issued guidelines on sugar and salt

New guidelines of ICMR: If you also eat packaged food then be careful! Ultra-processed food contains high amounts of sugar and salt and it can be dangerous for health. The expert committee has said that people should avoid eating foods that have high amounts of sugar, fat and salt. Also, the amount of sugar in packed food should also be fixed.

Expert committee gave suggestion

An expert committee of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) has suggested that the quantity of sugar in packaged foods and beverages should be fixed. Foods with high sugar, fat and salt should be avoided. Regular consumption of these can lead to serious diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease.

Many people prefer to eat ultra-processed foods that are high in calories, low in fiber and high in sugar. Deep-fried products should also be avoided.

Foods which are high in sugar should not be eaten

Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are usually high in sugar and salt. The guidelines say that consumption of such foods, including jams, fruit pulp, carbonated beverages, health drinks, should be limited. Foods high in fat, sugar and salt should also be avoided at home.

There should be a certain amount of sugar in packaged food

The amount of sugar in packaged food should be fixed. It is recommended to limit the amount of sugar in foods like cold drinks, packaged juices, cookies, cakes, health drinks. Diseases like diabetes, fatty liver, blood pressure can be avoided by adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Avoid eating foods high in sugar, fat, and salt

Nowadays more and more people are suffering from the problem of fatty liver. This problem occurs when excess fat gets accumulated in the liver. Therefore, packaged food containing excess oil, salt and sugar should be avoided.

The habit of packet food is becoming a problem among children. Consumption of foods with high fat, sugar and salt can lead to many diseases including weight gain, heart disease, skin disease, diabetes, kidney and liver disease.

The guidelines state that people should eat as much fresh food as possible. The amount of processed food should be reduced. You have to increase the intake of millets, pulses, fresh fruits and fresh vegetables in your diet.
