People associated with agriculture should not face any inconvenience in procuring paddy: Chief Minister

Patna, 01 November (HS). Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today held a review meeting regarding paddy procurement in the Kharif marketing year 2024-25. In the meeting he said that the government remains ready to provide all possible help to the farmers. Take special care to ensure that people associated with agriculture do not face any inconvenience in procuring paddy.

The Chief Minister said that district wise targets for paddy procurement should be set according to the estimated production of paddy. Also keep an eye on those who create irregularities in paddy procurement work. The work of paddy procurement should be done faster and better so that farmers do not face any kind of problem.

In the meeting, through a presentation, Dr. N. Sarvan Kumar, Secretary, Food and Consumer Protection Department, gave detailed information regarding the minimum support price of paddy under the Kharif marketing year 2024-25, the proposed period of paddy procurement and the target of paddy procurement. He said that this time the minimum support price of normal grade paddy has been kept at Rs 2300 per quintal. The proposed period of paddy procurement has been kept from November 1 to February 15, 2025. The process of paddy procurement has been started in a phased manner and this year the target of paddy procurement has been set at 45 lakh metric tonnes. He said that the number of milled rice mills in the state has now increased to 360.

In the meeting, Cooperative Department Secretary Dharmendra Singh also gave information about the action plan for paddy procurement. He said that in the first phase, paddy procurement has been started in 19 districts of the state from today, whereas in the remaining districts, paddy procurement work will be started from November 15.

Cooperative Minister Dr. Prem Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Amritlal Meena and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
