With the development of digital payment systems, the use of UPI i.e. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has started increasing rapidly in India. However, users still accidentally transfer money to the wrong UPI ID. When the amount becomes large, it becomes even more difficult to transfer money to the wrong UPI. If you have inadvertently sent money to the wrong UPI ID, here are the steps you can take to get it back.
Lodge a complaint for erroneous UPI transaction
If you have accidentally transferred money to the wrong UPI ID, then you can get your money back by following these steps. First complain about the wrong payment. You can use it for UPI transactions on the portal of NPCI i.e. National Payments Corporation of India. Go to the NPCI website (npci.org.in) and register a complaint in the complaint section of 'Dispute Redressal System'. Here you will find an online form in which the following information has to be given.
UPI Transaction ID
Virtual Payment Address (VPA)
Money was transferred
Transaction Date
email id
mobile no
Bank details (where deductions have been paid)
When you fill out the form, select 'Transfer to wrong account' as the reason for the complaint.
According to the NPCI website, if your complaint is not resolved, you can escalate it to your bank. If no solution is found here, you can take it to the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) Digital Transactions Ombudsman.
Complain to RBI Ombudsman: If your complaint is not resolved within a month or you are dissatisfied with the response, you can escalate it to RBI Ombudsman. Your problem will be resolved here.
