External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said Indian and Chinese troops will once again be able to resume patrolling as they did before the border tensions erupted in May 2020. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, before External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, announced that India and China will begin patrolling the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Himalayas. The contract reportedly pertains to patrolling in Dapsang and Demchok areas. Patrolling has started at these points and both the countries will start withdrawing their troops.

What was the dispute?
A meeting was held in Beijing on 29 August regarding the border between China and India. There was a discussion between the two countries to resolve the dispute and resolve differences on LAC. Earlier, during a summit in Geneva on September 12, the External Affairs Minister had said that 75 percent of the dispute between India and China has been resolved.
In the year 2020, there was a clash between China and India in Galwan. 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in this encounter in Galwan in June. While 40 Chinese soldiers were killed or injured. After this clash in Galwan, the relations between the two countries were badly affected.
