Patna: Death sentence of 4 convicts in Gandhi Maidan blast case converted to life imprisonment, know why? | News India


Patna High Court on Wednesday converted the death sentence of four convicts to life imprisonment in the 2013 Gandhi Maidan blast case in Bihar's capital Patna. All four convicts were earlier sentenced to death by a civil court. Let us tell you that Haider Ali, Mujibullah, Noman and Imtiaz were sentenced to death. But the High Court converted their death sentence to life imprisonment. Also, the lower court's decision to sentence Umar and Azharuddin to life imprisonment was upheld.

Know what was the matter

Gandhi Maidan was born on 27 October 2013. At that time all the parties were busy campaigning for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile Narendra Modi reached Patna. A Gaurav Rally was organized by the BJP at Gandhi Maidan. He was addressing the rally. At the same time, the first bomb blast took place near the Sulabh Shauchalaya located on platform number 10 of Patna Junction. After this, a series of bomb blasts took place at six places in and around Gandhi Maidan. Six people were killed and 89 were injured in the blasts.

After this incident, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had demanded an NIA inquiry from the then Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde. In 2014, the NIA filed a chargesheet against all the accused in this case. 187 people were made to testify in the court in this case.
